Job description

About the role

We are seeking two Specialist Ophthalmologists to join our team of four Ophthalmologists serving a population of around 145,000. The positions are district wide but based in Blenheim at the Wairau hospital with an expectation that you will take part in a 1:6 on call roster. The service provides the highest standard of care for our patients, while maintaining an excellent work-life balance.

Two positions available:
•Permanent part-time, 64 hours/fortnight (0.8FTE)
•Permanent part-time, 48 hours/fortnight (0.6FTE)

About you

You should be a fellow of the RANZCO, or hold an equivalent specialist qualification and be eligible for vocational registration in NZ (if not already registered) and have a current annual practising certificate.

We expect you to have excellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to being able manage your time effectively. You must be a team player and commit to client oriented care and quality standards.

What we offer

The Ophthalmology Departments at both sites are contemporary services based on a team of Ophthalmologists who have general and subspecialist training, Specialist Nurses, Orthoptists, Optometrists and Technicians. There is a comprehensive suite of equipment including OCT, Fields, Photography, and Lasers. In both operating theatres there are modern microscopes and Alcon Centurion Phakoemulsification equipment.

Blenheim the site of our Wairau facility is the centre of a large wine growing area, adjacent to the Marlborough Sounds and near Nelson Lakes National Park.

Nearby is the city of Nelson, situated near the top of the South Island, which is the geographical centre of New Zealand. It has three national parks within a 90 minute drive and is surrounded by beaches, mountains, hidden valleys, raging rivers and golden sands. It is known as a spectacular natural environment and has one of the highest number of sunshine hours in New Zealand.
