Job description

Emergency Medicine Specialist
Southland Hospital

• Fixed term, full time

Looking for a change this summer? Join us in this fixed term role, starting in January 2019.

We are a stable and collegial medical staffing team of 7 other Specialists.
The department is accredited for Registrar 12 months training with the Australian College of Emergency Medicine so teaching is a part of this role. The Registrars are supported by a Senior House Office Roster. Our roster is 4 x 10 hour shifts per week (3 clinical and 1 non-clinical) which include mornings and afternoons and one weekend in four Our on call is also shared on the days when you are working.

Southland Hospital has 181 beds and is the regional referral and teaching and trauma centre for a population of 105,000, as well as for a rural catchment area that stretches from Stewart Island to Te Anau and Queenstown. The Emergency Department has approximately 36,000 presentations per annum, with a modern open plan design that supports 21 beds (which includes six observations beds).

Recognised as an ideal place to raise a family, Invercargill is a modern city offering access to outstanding leisure pursuits and a caring, safe community. The city also has superb facilities, including a brand new indoor velodrome and sporting complex, excellent schools and an enterprising, innovative 'free fees' tertiary education provider. Southland offers a wide range of recreational activities and is home to two of New Zealand's national parks offering superb hiking and scenery, whilst internationally acclaimed fishing and a wide range of other outdoor pursuits are also available. Five top New Zealand snowboarding/skiing destinations are also within easy driving distance.

To be eligible for this position you will need to have completed your Fellowship with the Australian College of Emergency Medicine or have a qualification allowing you to gain a locum tenens specialist pathway registration. Ideally you will start with us in January 2019. We offer an attractive remuneration package, relocation assistance and CME allowance.
