Job description

Specialist Intensive Care with Anaesthesia Sub-Specialty
Dunedin Hospital
Full time, Permanent
Southern District Health Board

Dunedin Hospital has almost 400 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 350,000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand. The ICU has been refurbished and has closer accessibility to the HDU so the team can work across the two units easily.

Allocation of time for clinical duties and patient care is 50% of the working week. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) duties will be conducted as part of a shared roster with twelve other colleagues in intensive care medicine. Additionally, colleagues from emergency medicine and anaesthesia currently participate in the weekend aero-medical retrieval roster. You would be expected to provide a mixture of cover for ICU, retrieval services, HDU and outreach services.
We will negotiate the FTE you have with our Anaesthesia Service, as you will expected to undertake a full share of the Intensive Care on-call roster with other members of the team. Other duties include participation in team ward rounds, quality and safety activities, audit and clinical review meetings.

Outside of work, you’ll find life in Dunedin to be very easy with its affordable living, great schools, laid back lifestyle and world-famous wildlife on the Otago Peninsula. The town centre is compact but has plenty of energy. You will find theatre, live music and a great selection of restaurants and cafes. Central Otago, with all of its great holiday spots and outdoor recreation opportunities is also easily accessible from Dunedin.

To be considered for these roles, it is essential that you hold a Post Graduate in Intensive Care Medicine, and Medicine/surgery (CICM or equivalent). It is desirable that you have additional training and fellowship in Anaesthesiology.

We will be considering all applications individually on receipt.
