Job description

Surgical, Pathology, and Ambulatory Services
Whangarei Hospital, Northland, New Zealand

Are you a Laboratory Haematopathologist - Northland District Health Board is looking for a fixed term Haematopathologist to commence ASAP through to June 2019, until our permanent incumbent can commence.

Northland District Health Board provides secondary care services to the northern most part of New Zealand. Our haematopathologist team of two provides core services from Whangarei Hospital. Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services and supporting three regional hospitals located in Kaitaia, Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Despite our largely rural setting, the pathology seen in Northland is often advanced and complex, making for stimulating and exciting work as a pathologist.

The successful applicant will be part of a friendly pathology team providing a high level of service. You will develop strong working relationships with our oncology team which includes two oncology haematologists.

The successful applicant should have comprehensive experience and training in diagnostic and consultative haematology services. You will be proficient in performing and reporting bone marrow biopsies; and you will have a sound knowledge in transfusion medicine. Participation in the after-hours on call roster is required.

Ongoing education is encouraged and supported with a generous continuing medical education allowance. The size of the hospital and regular interdisciplinary meetings allow for a close collegial working environment.

Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a population of approximately 170,000. Northland boasts some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas of New Zealand in a subtropical climate. Popular water recreation areas include the Bay of Islands and Poor Knight Islands Reserves.
