Job description

Older Persons and Rehabilitation
Job Number: WAI02976

Are you an energetic and forward thinking Geriatrician or General Physician with a passion for older people? If you think that you possess the right skills and attributes that will make a difference, then why not think about joining our team here in the beautiful Waikato region of New Zealand.

Our service ‘Older Persons and Rehabilitation’ has seen considerable growth over the last 10 years and has the executive mandate and support to continue to grow.

To achieve this, we have developed our community out-reach services and supported discharge models; built a major Specialist Services for Older People and Rehabilitation (2013), (including the co-location of Mental Health Services for Older People facility, a purpose-built space totalling 113 beds for the inpatient team to work in the most efficient way possible. The teams practice within an interdisciplinary model and are supported by high quality clinical leadership.

The services provide seamless service delivery of:

• Geriatric inpatient and outpatient services
• Rehabilitation for adults 18-65 years of age;
• Organised stroke services;
• Orthogeriatric rehabilitation;
• Supported Discharge services (START)

Older Persons and Rehabilitation provides a flagship and benchmark for such services in New Zealand. We have a strong academic focus via our Institute of Healthy ageing and, therefore have a focus on providing quality evidence around all that we do. This includes properly funded randomised trials whenever required.

There is plenty of opportunity for you to make a real difference and to be actively involved with future growth within the service. The individual will need to demonstrate an ability to contribute to the development and implementation of new models of care, and will need to have critical, analytical and leaderships skills to see that tasks are completed to fruition. Research and teaching opportunities could be available.

If you are dually trained as a general physician, this job will be ideal for you as one of the many options for service development is the better development of our service integration into acute care of elderly patients both in medical and surgical environments. We also provide opportunities for innovation in the delivery of specialist services for our diverse and geographically spread populations.

Sounds too good to be true?

Positions like this don’t come along every day, so apply today and be part of an innovative and professional team of specialists focused on the best outcomes for their client group, Older Persons and Rehabilitation.
