Location: Porirua

Contract: Fixed term (0.8 FTE, 6 months, starting June 2019)

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a consultant psychiatrist with forensic experience who is comfortable taking on a senior role.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team setting, providing high quality diagnosis, and treatment and follow up of mental health consumers and supporting the medical and psychiatric development of this service.

You will be responsible for providing input to regular prison clinics, and follow up of special patients in the community. In addition the appointee is expected to provide court requested assessments and reports and may occasionally be required to attend court to give an expert opinion. Peer review, informal supervision and collegial support are provided on a two weekly basis at the Regional Forensic Service in Porirua. There are also opportunities for teaching registrars and trainee interns.

This appointment is part time, fixed term based in Porirua, Wellington as the work is spread over the Wellington Forensic Community Mental health team and NZ Correctional Facilities.

DUTIES

- Work and liaise with a multi-disciplinary team in a forensic setting
- Run weekly forensic doctor clinics at a NZ Correctional Facility/Prison
- Liaise with, and provide advice for the health teams at NZ Correctional Facility/Prison
- Write court requested expert assessments and reports
- May be occasionally required to give an expert opinion in court

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Vocationally registered psychiatrist with Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) to practise as a consultant Psychiatrist
- FRANZCP or equivalent and be able to register for specialist registration with the MCNZ
- Experienced consultant psychiatrist
- Experience in working with inpatient and community mental health services
- Experience in providing clinical leadership to other psychiatrists in the team
- Experience in providing clinical leadership in a multi-disciplinary setting
- Have a current driver’s license

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has the equivalent of around 4,300 full time staff, making us a major employer in the Wellington region. CCDHB operates two hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kapiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

CCDHB provides a range of specialist services including neurosurgery, oncology, neonatal intensive care and community-based services including district nursing, rehabilitation services, social work, alcohol and drug services, and home support services to a population of around 900,000 people.

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB’s and includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAIDS services are provided from multiple sites within the 3DHB sub-region – greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.
