Location: Porirua

Contract: 12 Months Fixed term (1 FTE)

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role sits across 2 services within MHAIDS 3DHB, Central Region forensic inpatient service & the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Inpatient Service. You will be responsible for ensuring that all clinical steps necessary are taken to assist patients to achieve optimal health, wellbeing and safety through the provision of appropriate assessment, intervention and education.

You will have the opportunity to be part of a service that provides specialist intervention for regional clients within intensive and extended Forensic and rehabilitation settings. The patients reside on the campus, either in cottages, step-down facilities or inpatient Forensic or rehabilitation wards. You will work in a multidisciplinary team setting, providing high quality diagnosis, and treatment and follow up of mental health patients and supporting the medical and psychiatric development of this service. You will also be caring for long stay patients (not acute) and forensic patients who have progressed through a rehabilitation pathway in a supportive multidisciplinary based service.

You will work alongside experienced colleagues and enjoy the experience of working alongside a supportive and close knit team who work intensively with their caseload. Peer review, informal supervision and collegial support are provided on a two weekly basis at the Regional Forensic Service in Porirua. There are also opportunities for teaching Registrars and Trainee Interns.

This appointment is full time and is fixed term based in Porirua, Wellington as the work is spread over the Forensic Inpatient Service and the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Inpatient Service.

DUTIES

- Work and liaise with a multi-disciplinary team in a forensic setting
- May be occasionally required to give an expert opinion in court

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Vocationally registered psychiatrist with Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) to practise as a consultant Psychiatrist
- FRANZCP or equivalent and be able to register for specialist registration with the MCNZ
- Experienced consultant psychiatrist
- Experience in working with inpatient and community mental health services
- Experience in providing clinical leadership to other psychiatrists in the team
- Experience in providing clinical leadership in a multi-disciplinary setting
- Have a current driver’s license

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has the equivalent of around 4,300 full time staff, making us a major employer in the Wellington region. CCDHB operates two hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kapiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB’s and includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAIDS services are provided from multiple sites within the 3DHB sub-region – greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa. Te Korowai Whariki services include regional forensic and rehabilitation services covering the Central region while the intellectual disability services extend the length and breadth of the country from six bases located in Whangarei, Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin.
