Location: Wellington

Contract: Permanent, Part time (32 hours per week)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Come and join our dynamic multidisciplinary South Community Mental Health team who provide support and education to adults experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties. In this role you can be assured of a great variety in your work. You will be responsible for ensuring that all necessary clinical steps are taken to assist clients to achieve optimal health, wellbeing and safety through the provision of appropriate assessment, intervention and education.

DUTIES

Provide high quality diagnosis, treatment and follow up of clients
Treatment in a community setting of a broad range of diagnoses and co-morbidities
Work together with other members of the multidisciplinary team
Provide advice and support to colleagues in primary care
Hold responsibility for the management of patients subject to compulsory treatment
Supervise psychiatry registrars and medical students
Contribute to the on call roster for psychiatrists
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Vocationally registered psychiatrist with Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) to practise as a consultant psychiatrist
FRANZCP or equivalent and be able to register for specialist registration with the MCNZ
You will need sound mental health assessment and treatment skills
Application of a biopsychosocial model for guiding formulation and treatment
Previous experience working in a multidisciplinary team
Confidence working with Māori
Previous experience with patients who are culturally and linguistically diverse
Expertise working in collaboration with families/ whānau
Previous experience of working with patients subject to compulsory treatment
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has the equivalent of around 4,300 full time staff, making us a major employer in the Wellington region. CCDHB operates two hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kapiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB’s and includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAIDS services are provided from multiple sites within the 3DHB sub-region – greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa. Te Korowai Whariki services include regional forensic and rehabilitation services covering the Central region while the intellectual disability services extend the length and breadth of the country from six bases located in Whangarei, Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin.
