•Fixed-term six month, part-time position (48 hours/ fortnight, 0.6FTE) covering sabbatical

About the role

We are a busy, contemporary, ophthalmology service providing a wide range of general ophthalmology care with a dedicated team of Ophthalmologists (with general and specialist training) specialty Nurses, Orthoptists, Optometrists and Technicians. Our suites include OCT, fields, photography and lasers and our operating theatres have modern microscopes and Alcon Centurion Phakoemulsification equipment.

We are looking for a fixed-term Specialist Ophthalmologist to join our team of three Ophthalmologists. This position will be based at Nelson Hospital in Nelson. The expectation is that you will take part in a 1:6 on call roster. You will be part of our district-wide service supported by the ophthalmology clinical team at Wairau Hospital.

About you

You will be either registered or be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, and have undertaken post-graduate training in Ophthalmology, obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologist (or equivalent).

You will have excellent communication skills, as well as commit to client-oriented care and quality standards, and enjoy working in a collaborative and cohesive team.

What we offer

The annual salary for this position will be the range of $161,304 - $240,000 (pro-rata), as per the current senior medical and dental officer collective agreement, dependent on skills, experience and gaining full vocational registration in NZ.

You will also have access to ten days (pro-rata) and a $16,000 (pro-rata) allowance to put towards your Continued Medical Education CME.

Situated near the top of the South Island, Nelson city is the geographical centre of New Zealand. It has three national parks within a 90 minute drive and is surrounded by beaches, mountains, hidden valleys, raging rivers and golden sands. It is known as having a spectacular natural environment and has one of the highest number of sunshine hours in New Zealand.
