Contract: Permanent, Full time


Capital and Coast DHB has a vacancy for a full-time Radiation Oncologist to join a team of 9 Radiation Oncologists at the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre with a negotiated start date in 2019. This centre is an integrated unit with Medical Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care services. The catchment population is approximately half a million, and one million for HDR and bone marrow transplant services, assessing over 1500 new patients per annum for radiation. Clinicians are site sub-specialised and supported by established MDMs.

Our Varian-equipped centre has 3 linacs (2 Truebeam and 1 dual-energy Clinac) in addition to SXR, wide-bore CT and Aria patient management and Eclipse treatment planning systems A full range of contemporary radiation treatments is provided, including VMAT, SRT and SABR (evolving)and IGRT external beam techniques. There is an active HDR service for gynae, prostate and skin cancers. We also have a program of clinical practice developments with a current focus on extending VMAT and SABR techniques.

This is a training centre, with 5 registrars to support the service. Wellington hospital is linked to the Otago University Wellington School of Medicine for training medical students and is a training centre for radiation therapists and Medical Physicists.

The hospital has dedicated research facilities and opportunities exist to collaborate with Otago and Victoria University and the Malaghan Institute.

This is a site sub-specialised service. Clinicians cover an average of 4 tumour streams. An interest in clinical research is desirable but not essential.


- Provide medical care as part of a multidisciplinary team
- On call roster shared amongst team
- Clinical research is encouraged


- Vocationally registered as a Radiation Oncologist with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- Fellowship of the RANZCR (FRANZCR) or equivalent and be able to register for specialist registration with the MCNZ
- Excellent communication skills
