Location: Wellington

Contract: Full time. Fixed term for 12 months , starting December 2019.


Applications are invited for a one year Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology commencing December 2019 at Wellington Regional Hospital, Wellington, New Zealand.

The position would suit a senior registrar completing their training or newly qualified consultant wishing to expand their experience in Interventional Cardiology. Wellington Hospital performs approximately 1200 Interventional Cardiology procedures per annum, operates a primary PCI programme, and has access to state of the art equipment including FFR, IVUS and OCT. Aside from coronary stenting, the appointee may expect involvement and training in closure devices, CTOs, Rotablator, mitral and aortic valvuloplasties, and PFO/ASD closure as well as TAVI.


- Prepare and perform interventional procedures
- Care of the patient following the procedure
- Outpatient clinics.
- Research, audit, and database duties. This includes responsibility for the ANZACs QI database.


- The Interventional fellow can expect to act as primary operator in excess of 500 cases. Candidates will have completed their advanced training in Cardiology (FRACP, MRCP (UK) or equivalent), and will have been in Specialist Training in Cardiology for a minimum of two years
- Full competency at diagnostic angiography is a pre-requisite, and experience assisting PCI an advantage
- Vocationally registered in internal medicine (Cardiology) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- Fellowship of the RCAP in internal medicine or equivalent and be able to register for specialist registration with the MCNZ
