6 month position
1 FTE, fixed term

What better place to do your training!
Your dream opportunity just arrived, Queenstown’s Lakes District Hospital has a 6 month Medical Officer position available from December 2019 to June 2020, and another vacancy from July 2020 to December 2020. This role is only suitable for Rural Hospital Medicine Registrars or Emergency Registrars (accredited for 6 months special skills.)

Lakes District Hospital consists of 10 General Medical (Acute) beds, five Maternity beds, Emergency Department and a small out-patient department. It has onsite Radiology, including a brand new CT Scanner and access to Laboratory services. In this role you will work in the Emergency Department and on the ward, where we see around 12,000 patients a year, with a patient population that is young and international, the spectrum of disease seen here is hugely varied. At Lakes District Hospital you’ll be part of a team of 11 FTE rural hospital doctors and medical officers. You will need to be a confident practitioner as your on-call backup may be up to 30 minutes away, though there is easy access to phone advice. An on call room is provided.

You will need to have sound ED skills and experience to be considered for this role and have gained exposure to ICU/anaesthetics. Any time spent in orthopaedics, general medicine and paediatrics will be beneficial. You will have previously worked as a solo medical practitioner, or be ready to do so. You must be enrolled in a NZ based training programme and need to undertake this role as part of your training for Rural Hospital Medicine.
