The details: Permanent – Part time (0.5 FTE)

About the role:
We are seeking a passionate, committed Endocrine Senior Medical Officer to join our dynamic, progressive department at Waikato Hospital. Our broad focus on patient care, research and education offers an excellent career opportunity.

You will be working in a team of senior clinicians, including 5 part time endocrinologists, 2 Clinical Nurse Specialists and two senior registrars. The department is accredited for training two advanced trainees. The service supports a population of approximately 890,000 people within the Waikato and our larger tertiary catchment including Bay of Plenty, Taranki and Tairawhiti.

If you have any queries about the role please contact Alex Gordon, Director of Ambulatory, Cancer and Regional Services: alex.gordon@waikatodhb.health.nz

Why us:
The Waikato District Health Board (DHB) is one of the largest of 20 DHBs in New Zealand. We plan, fund and provide health and disability support services to a population of more than 400,000. We run five hospitals across the district – a tertiary hospital in Hamilton, a secondary hospital in Thames, and three rural hospitals in Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, and Tokoroa.

Waikato Hospital in Hamilton is a Level-1 trauma centre and one of New Zealand’s largest tertiary, teaching hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres.

We are a values based and inclusive organisation that is committed to deliver the best health outcomes for our total population. To do this we are working hard to develop a robust and capable workforce that reflects the population we serve. We strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds with the necessary capability and who share our values to apply and would greatly value seeing more applicants from our Māori communities.

Why Waikato:
Hamilton is the third largest city in North Island; approximately 2 hours’ drive south of Auckland, and offers a superb lifestyle and quality-of-life working environment. As the largest employer in Hamilton, there is a varied and approachable social network based around the hospital. It is within easy reach of both West Coast surfing and East Coast leisure beaches. The Ruapehu Ski-fields are 3 hours’ drive away, and there are outstanding opportunities for hiking, sailing, fishing, biking and many other outdoor activities within the Waikato, and throughout New Zealand.
