Job description

We need your help to bridge the gap between the retirement of a long standing and well-respected Pain Medicine Specialist and the planned arrival of our permanent replacement, (who has been delayed in part due to the international Covid situation). Can you assist us with a commitment to work for approximately three months, ideally from October 2020 (with hours that can be negotiable)?

Timaru is often considered to be a well-kept secret by those in the know, (well that is what many of our more recent SMO appointees have told us).

It seems our collegially supportive and well run DHB has a tendency to fly under the radar, as we simply get on with the job of providing our patients the best care with the minimum of fuss, and our Anaesthetic Dept is no exception.

The Department is also responsible for our Acute and Persistent Pain Services in conjunction with Clinical Nurse Specialists, so this is where we need your skills to shine in bringing your clinical expertise to this critical service area. As such we would ideally be hoping to engage a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, FFPMANZCA (or equivalent) to this temporary role, or alternatively an Anaesthetist with a strong sub speciality interest/experience in Pain Medicine.

In this role you will be responsible for conducting outpatient and inpatient work, including Interdisciplinary Clinics, and it goes without saying the ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines is essential.

We may be small in size, but not unlike NZ generally, we have a tendency to punch above our weight in performance measures, plus we hold a solid reputation across our community who values our service.

The sense of community and belonging is reflected in-house as much as it is a part of the local landscape, and what a landscape we have with every sporting and outdoor interest wise almost literally on our doorstep providing genuine ease of access.

Your assistance with maintaining our Pain Service in a time of transition will be invaluable and equally rewarding, so why not get in touch to chat about the possibility of having a temporary change of scene!
