The West Coast District Health Board prides itself in being at the forefront of Rural Healthcare in Aotearoa. Being a Rural Health System is not simply a result of the setting in which we work, it means every staff member working to their full potential and striving for full integration of every single element of our business to create a world class healthcare experience. We are seeking a General Surgeon who is passionate about rural healthcare and Rural Generalism.
What you'll do with your time
Te Nikau Hospital and Health Centre opened in late 2020. The level of this facility is above that normally expected for population base of 33,000. There is a comprehensive road and air retrieval and transfer system, as well as a modern CCU.
We have a transalpine alliance with Canterbury, through this you will benefit from the support of your surgical colleagues in Christchurch Hospital, and be able to participate in joint educational and audit activities. Your role will encompass a broad range of general surgical activities and will include endoscopy, acute (on-call) services, in-patient and out-patient responsibilities as well as the supervision and general training of junior medical staff
