Job description

Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

We are looking for an experienced Palliative Care Physician to join our Hospital based Palliative Care team. The service provides specialist Palliative Care assessment, treatment advice and support to patients, whānau/ families, and other Health Care Professionals across all services at Tauranga and Whakatāne Hospitals. The team consists of Medical and Nursing Specialist roles and liaises closely with Acute Medical, Surgical and Allied Health colleagues to provide a responsive and high-quality services. The team liaises with both hospice and primary care colleagues across the wider community to support safe transitions of care across all settings.

The ideal applicant will be a Physician who is keen to participate with us in developing responsive ways of meeting the needs of people accessing care at the two hospitals serving the Bay of Plenty population. The Bay of Plenty District Health Board is committed to our Te Toi Ahorangi vision of equitable services and health outcomes for Maori. To meet this vision the ideal candidate will have experience in working in a culturally diverse setting and proven skills in contributing to services which have evolved to meet the needs of patients, whanau/family and the wider community through an integrated service model of care.

In addition, we seek an individual who is has the skills to foster a learning culture across undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff, with the support of the BOP Clinical School and the University of Auckland. The school also provides clinical research opportunities. This role is suited to someone who is enthusiastic around service improvement and working in new ways as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council or be training in NZ and with 9 months or less of advanced training remaining to achieve FRACP.
