ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon to join our team of five to provide paediatric surgery to the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand. The successful candidate will provide paediatric surgery care to infants and children at Capital & Coast DHB and at regional DHBs.
The paediatric surgery team provides acute and elective paediatric surgery. The tertiary services are delivered to children from the entire central region. The service routinely performs about 1,200 surgical procedures each year. In addition, there is close co-operation with one of only Maternal-Fetal Management (MFM) services in New Zealand, focusing on the wellbeing of women and new-born infants who have Maternal Fetal complications or complex health needs.
The service covers specialities in paediatric surgery including urology, neonatal surgery, chest wall & thoracic surgery.
- Treat patients at local and regional clinics
- Operate at Wellington Regional Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital and regional DHBs
- Provide clinical care to patients at Wellington (including neonates)
- Work in collaboration with the team and to teach junior staff and medical students from the University of Otago at Wellington
- The roster is 1:5
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
-Vocationally registered in Paediatrics Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- FRACS (Paediatrics Surgery) or equivalent and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
- A subspecialty interest in Paediatric urology including hypospadias surgery
- Relevant training and experience
- Have a current driver's license
