Location: Wellington Regional Hospital

Contract: Permanent, Full time (40 hours p/w) starting November 2021


We are looking for an enthusiastic Neonatologist to join our great team at Capital & Coast District Health Board’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The service is a 40 cot, state of the art facility with innovative models of care, which continues CCDHB’s reputation as a leading tertiary hospital in New Zealand. We provide friendly, professional, patient centred care to the central region of New Zealand with over 400 infant retrievals/returns (mostly flight) to the region annually and providing Level III care to a birth population of 18,000 deliveries per year.


- Provide medical care as part of a multidisciplinary team for NICU inpatients
- Participate in the On call roster shared with other Neonatologists
- Outpatient follow up of neonatal patients from the Wellington region
- Education and supervision of junior medical staff including RACP trainees
- Attendance at Antenatal consultations with parents and deliveries when infants are expected to require neonatal intensive care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings required for care discussion, service development and quality improvement, as well as audits and clinical research


- Vocationally registered as a Paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- Fellowship of the RACP (FRACP) or equivalent and be able to register for specialist registration with the MCNZ
- Experience working in tertiary neonatal intensive care
- Skills in point of care cardiac and cerebral ultrasound would be an would be expected
- Skills and aptitude to supervise and educate junior and advanced medical FRACP trainees as well as participate in the undergraduate programmes
- Assisting the facilitation of extensive education programmes (as a university teaching hospital)
