ABOUT THE ROLE
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced paediatrician to join our team in Wellington on a full-time basis. Wellington Hospital Children’s Health is a dynamic service and we are looking a fully trained and qualified paediatrician to join our collegial team. Be part of the transition into Te Wao Nui, the new name for our integrated Child Health Service, which is scheduled to open in late 2021 and will bring child health services under one roof for the first time – allowing for the integration of inpatient and outpatient services, as well as encouraging clinical collaboration and communication.
This role will involve leadership in Respiratory Paediatrics, working with the Respiratory and Sleep Clinical Nurse Specialist in managing outpatients with chronic respiratory disease and consulting on inpatients. Skills in bronchoscopy are not currently required for this position, however provision of this service could be considered in future in consultation with the New Zealand tertiary centre in Auckland. The role will also involve investigation and management of sleep disorders in children, including oversight of children in the sleep laboratory and CPAP treatment, monitored by the CNS.
Experience in, or desire to develop, other sub-speciality areas of interest which would complement existing service provision would be welcomed. The successful candidate will participate in the general paediatric on-call roster (1 in 11) excluding neonatology.
An opportunity for a formal clinical leadership position may be available should the successful applicant be interested.
- Provide medical care as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Participate in the on-call roster shared with other general paediatric consultant
- Education and supervision of junior medical staff including RACP trainees
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings required for care discussion, service development and quality improvement, as well as audits and clinical research
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Vocationally registered as a Paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- Fellowship of the RACP (FRACP) or equivalent and be able to register for specialist registration with the MCNZ
- Training and experience in Respiratory and Sleep paediatrics.
- Skills and aptitude to supervise and educate junior and advanced medical FRACP trainees as well as participate in the undergraduate programmes
