Medical Officer Special Scale (MO) - Public Health - COVID-19 Response
Current NZMC registered PGY2+
Fixed-term (18 months), part-time
Do you have an interest in public health? We have a role that offers you the opportunity to make your mark in enhancing the capabilities of our public health service within the Southern region. With ongoing requirements around the Public Health Covid19 response, there will be many opportunities to extend your skillset!
In this role, you will primarily provide support to our Public Health team at Southern DHB and our response to district COVID-19 notifications. Duties include providing clinical advice to clinicians, support nurses, and health protection officers with assigned areas in support of PHS activities in the control of communicable diseases.
Working at SDHB means active participation in a value-based and inclusive organisation, therefore your leadership and coaching capabilities will play a part in scoping, gathering new case and contact details, developing a case management plan, lead case reviews, lead outbreaks, and upskilling and coaching of team members. You will be liaising with our local PHO regarding COVID-19 testing implementation and supporting public health staff in overseeing testing for border workers. Due to the evolving nature of Public Health Covid19 response, the ability to remain calm and level-headed is key to this role!
We have three offices across the district - Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown with 56 staff. We are working through an exciting transformational change. Our staff work collaboratively with our partners as we move toward using health in all policy approaches to address the determinants of health, reducing inequities, and improving the health and well-being of our southern communities where they live, learn, work and play.
This is a fixed-term 0.5FTE (FTE can be negotiated) role for eighteen months in Dunedin. As this is a part-time role, you will have the flexibility in where and when you work. Take the opportunity during your downtime to check out some of New Zealand's most famous scenery and holiday spots - Queenstown, Wanaka, Milford Sound, Stewart Island, to name a few. Dunedin is a vibrant University town and a great place to live and work. Our district also offers affordable living, great schools, a true work-life balance, and a relaxed way of life with no traffic jams in sight.
You will already hold registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand under a general or vocational scope. A full driver's licence is essential and travel will be required.
Closing date: Friday, 2 July 2021.
We will be screening applications before the closing date to ensure we can start interviewing once the role closes but this may be closed earlier.
