About Southern District Health Board
Here at Southern DHB, we're undergoing significant transformation, as we work towards becoming a more patient-centric and modern system, working in partnership with and supporting the communities we serve. With the nationwide changes we are embracing, you will be part of a diverse and inclusive group of colleagues where collaboration is an important element of our team makeup. This role focuses on clinical outcomes and clinical relationships to ensure SDHB maintains its high quality in services and safely delivers world-class care.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer with proven leadership skills and changes management experience to take a leading role with Southern DHB. Working alongside your Executive colleagues and reporting directly to the CEO, you will play a critical role in providing clinical leadership across the whole DHB. At a national and South Island level, you will represent Southern DHB and its interests in clinical matters. Within the Southern Region, you will take the lead on building upon the strong relationships the DHB enjoys with our stakeholders. Amongst your peers, you will already be a respected and trusted leader and in your new role you will work with the Medical Directors to build a strong and effective clinical leadership team that expound on the vision and strategic direction of Southern DHB.
As the CMO, you will encourage both hospital and community-based services to engage in developing strategic direction and improve operational performance. You will promote innovation in our planning and provision of services across the health system to ensure a best for the patient, best for system approach. This role will also ensure we actively support the development, professional conduct, and welfare of our medical workforce.
To be considered for the role you will be a vocationally registered Specialist with a proven ability to provide professional advice and support on clinical and operational skills and practice. You will have an understanding of rural and remote communities and be able to articulate the relevant issues they face. You will have a background and proven success in developing and implementing strategy and be adept at carrying people along with you on your journey.
Please note that although the position is based in Dunedin, this is a district role and will involve traveling around the Southern Region.
The Southern DHB has the largest regional coverage of all the New Zealand health boards, providing services to over 315,000 people. We take pride in the services we provide and our aim is to improve, promote and protect the health of our population. This sustains great activities such as theatre, stunning gardens, art galleries, live music, and a diverse selection of restaurants and cafes.
