Job description

Harbour Hospice is the only specialist, palliative care provider for families living in the Hibiscus Coast, North Shore and Warkworth / Wellsford communities. We provide compassionate, free care working primarily with patients, families and carers in their homes, and also within our three hospice sites. Our bespoke services include medical care, spiritual support, physiotherapy, social activities and more, with an emphasis on helping people live every moment in whatever way is important to them.

About the Role:
We are looking for a Senior Medical Officer with experience in Palliative Care to join our Medical team. The role is primarily based at our Hospice in Red Beach but will be required to work across Harbour Hospice.
As a Senior Medical Officer, you will:
• provide medical consultative specialist palliative care to hospice patients (and their family/caregivers and whanau) as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary hospital palliative care team
• Mentor and coach our medical officers, provide support to nursing teams and provide additional support for patients and families with complex situations
• Support, advise and liaise with GPs, Aged Residential Care and other specialist providers
• Educate internally and externally
• Developing specialist palliative care at Harbour Hospice, such as processes, H&S, governance etc
• Have an active research role, collaborating with other organisations and leading and developing new projects

Qualifications required

• Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (or equivalent)
• Vocational registration as a medical practitioner with MCNZ
• Current New Zealand Practicing Certificate from Medical Council of New Zealand
• Experience working in a specialist palliative care role
• Experience and competence working within a multi-cultural community, with Tikanga Maori as an essential part of your work
• A demonstrated passion for palliative/end of life care
• Strong verbal, written, presentation, education and coaching skills
